Like websites, when thinking about purchasing a domain there are many questions which need answering.
First are you going to turn the domain into a website yourself or pay someone else to do this for you? If you are going to turn a domain into a website yourself you vitally need the skills, knowledge and tools not only to create the website itself but be able to get a high amount of traffic through good search-engine-optimization and on top of that be able to convert this traffic into sales. Moreover, if you are going to purchase someone to create the site for you do you have the money to do this and do you trust him or her to do a good enough job? You again need to get good converted traffic into sales that may require another brain that leads to more money.
Furthermore, are you going to keep hold of the domain and wait until a business offers you a higher amount for it than you bought it for? There’s a certain risk issue to this, as this may never happen. Saying this, with a good domain there are a lot of occasions where people get offered up to 10x the amount the domain was first bought for.
A friend of mine purchased britishspaceways and is hoping that British Airway’s will one day offer him a large amount when they start to go into space commercially. There are millions of domains out there and purchasing the right one can lead to a lot of potential profit.
